Longy’s Orchestra FLEX returns to Pickman Hall for their first concert of the spring semester. Named for James Reese Europe’s “Castle House Rag” and Mary Lou William’s “Zodiac Suite,” this concert features chamber works from from Nigeria to Hungary, spanning from the 18th century to modern day.

Orchestra FLEX is a re-imagined orchestra which provides an opportunity for large ensemble projects without being limited by instrumentation. Defined by the group’s collective voice, students take part in the full process of orchestral programming, navigating the real-world challenges and discoveries of concert production, planning, and performance while exploring the intersections of musical tradition, arrangement/composition, improvisation, technology, and innovation.
