Eben A. Fernando Heldreth is a Filipino American composer, conductor, and music educator based in Portland, Oregon. Eben graduated from Concordia University where he studied music education and composition and earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Additionally, Eben finished his post-master’s coursework receiving a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Wind Conducting (CAGS) from Messiah University, where he studied with Dr. Brad Genevro, Dr. Jack Stamp, and Dr. William Stowman. He has studied composition privately with several notable composers such as Dr. Jim Colonna, Dr. Jack Stamp, and Alex Shapiro.
Currently, he serves as a faculty member for the Masters of Music Education Program at Longy School of Music of Bard College, Director of Concert Band and Music Instructor for Chemeketa Community College, Director of Orchestra at Mt. Hood Community College, and Executive Officer for the Oregon Band Directors Association.
Eben is also an active composer, adjudicator, guest conductor, and private teacher. As a secondary educator, Eben has held positions at Skyview High School (Assistant Band Director & Resident Composer), Yamhill Carlton School District (Director of Instrumental Music), Washington State School for the Blind (Music Director), and Evergreen High School (Jazz Director). Additionally, Eben has over 10 years of experience working as a marching band instructor throughout the Pacific Northwest and has served as Operations Director for Shadow Marching Arts and Brass Co-Coordinator for Shadow Drum and Bugle Corps.
