Divergent Co-op

On the afternoon prior to this concert, the participants of Divergent Studio had the opportunity to hear a lecture by and engage with the groundbreaking work of musicoloigist Marianna Ritchey.  Her recent book, Composing Capital – Classical Music in the Neoliberal Era, lays out the ways in which classical music and industries surrounding it, have aligned themselves with the language, values, and ideology of free-market economics. The faculty and students of the Longy Divergent Studio will present Divergent Co-Op, a program of music by composers published by Frog Peak, a composer driven co-op that prioritizes the well being of it’s artists and their work over the market forces that so often influence the publishing and contemporary music world. The concert will feature works by Eric Richards, Ruth Crawford Seeger, James Tenney, Frederic Rzewski, Clive Wilkinson, John Cage, Lou Harrison, Frank Wigglesworth, Julia Werntz, Tom Baker, and Lois V. Vierk.
