Harmonic Deadlines: Jazz and Contemporary Music Departmental Recital
Friday • November 13, 2020 | 7:00 pm
Influenced by the works of great American composers like Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, and Wayne Shorter (to name a few) the Modern Standards ensemble has focused primarily on original music written by ensemble members. Interpretation and discussion of the music and the role of each individual is on-going.
The Harmolodics ensemble explores different methods of improvisation not using pre-determined chord changes and typical forms. The ensemble members have each written and workshopped original compositions for this concert. The concepts draw heavily from (but not be limited to) ensemble coach Dave Bryant’s studies and performance experience with Ornette Coleman and his Harmolodic Theory.
