STUDIO INSTRUCTION For most people, individual private lessons are at the heart of a well-rounded musical education. We are committed to finding the program of study that is appropriate for each student. After an admission consultation with the appropriate department chair, the student is assigned to a faculty member whose teaching style most closely complements the student's learning style. The exact program of study, based on the student's goals and levels of accomplishment, is determined by the faculty member.
Lessons are scheduled individually with the assigned faculty member. Hourly private lesson rates range from approximately $1,300 to $1,600 per semester. Tuition includes 15 lessons plus recital or workshop performance opportunities. Although the typical student registers for a complete semester of lessons, students are welcome to begin lessons at any time during the semester and in some cases may arrange for a less frequent lesson plan (additional fees may apply). Group and class instruction, workshops, and performance ensembles supplement the private instruction curriculum
Performance Evaluations A performance evaluation is an assessment of progress and accomplishment by a faculty panel. This opportunity is offered to students who register for 12 studio lessons per semester. These evaluations are held in the spring, and students will be notified early in the spring semester of the dates for their departmental evaluations. Interested students should consult with their teachers to decide the most appropriate repertoire and etudes to be presented.
Note: Students must be enrolled in the spring semester in order to participate.
