Jorge Soto, guest faculty

Jorge Soto was born in Barquisimeto, Venezuela. He began his musical studies at the "Vicente Emilio Sojo" State Conservatory in Barquisimeto. In Venezuela, he studied violin at the Latin-American Academy of violin under Rhio Sanchez and José Francisco Del Castillo. In the United States, Soto has studied with Sophie Vilker, Janne Malmivaara, Peter Sulski, and Timothy Schwarz.

Jorge Soto is a product of El Sistema, an innovative program that uses classical music as a vehicle for social change. He was a founding member of the Simon Bolivar National Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela. He has also performed with the Youth Orchestra of the Americas and the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas.

In addition to his violin career, Mr. Soto is still very active in El Sistema in Venezuela, where he teaches violin, coaches chamber music and conducts orchestras all around the country. In the United States, Mr. Soto has guest conducted Arkansas Youth Symphony and collaborated with the orchestras at Assumption College and Clark University. Jorge Soto's conducting teachers and mentors include Harold Farberman, Gustavo Dudamel, Eduardo Marturet, Stephen Tucker, Jani Telaranta and Charles Peltz.
