David Hurtado Gómez, guest faculty

Gómez started his musical studies at
a late age at the Universidad Tecnológica
in his hometown Pereira, pursuing a
degree in music education. At the same
time, he participated in the El Sistema
inspired program Batuta both as a
teacher and member of the orchestra of
that institution.

In Colombia, he was a member of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Caldas and Orquesta de la Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira. In 2013, he graduated with a Master Degree in Cello Performance from Longy School of Music of Bard College in Cambridge, MA under the guidance of Terry King.

A firm believer of music as an agent of change in any community, Mr. Hurtado Gómez volunteered in a variety of El Sistema inspired programs in the Greater Boston area, including El Sistema Somerville, Revolution of Hope, Josiah Quincy School Orchestra Program, and El Sistema Side by Side at Longy.

Furthermore, he recently developed an educational music project in urban places around the Greater Boston Area with the music of Bach called "Bach to the People".

He is currently the Cello Teaching Artist at the Josiah Quincy School Orchestra Program, outreach Cello teacher for the Community Music Center of Boston, a freelancer and the Cellist for Subito Ensemble, New England Repertory Orchestra and Shin Sekai: Cover Project.
