Courtney Clark, guest faculty

Violinist Courtney Clark holds a Master of Music Degree from Bowling Green State University, where she held the assistantship position in the Graduate String Quartet. Mrs. Clark’s Bachelor of Music Degree is from the State University of New York at Fredonia. During her college career, she also studied in several music festivals, including the International Music Festival of Leipzig, the Corfu Music Festival, and the National Orchestral Institute at the University of Maryland, where she worked under conductors Leonard Slatkin, Asher Fisch, and Alan Gilbert. 

Mrs. Clark’s principal teachers include Jeffrey Jones, Dr. Penney Thompson Kruse, Dr. Megan Yanik, Vasile Beluska, and Janet Sung. She has performed in several orchestras, including the Lima Symphony Orchestra, the Southern Tier Symphony, and the Western New York Chamber Orchestra. She currently plays with the Pioneer Valley Symphony Orchestra in Northampton, MA and is a freelance violinist in the Berkshires.

Mrs. Clark was introduced to the El Sistema philosophy in 2012, when she began teaching with Kids 4 Harmony in Pittsfield, MA. Kids 4 Harmony is one of many parts of the social service agency Berkshire Children and Families, which has been serving families in need throughout Berkshire County and Western Massachusetts since 1887. Several of her Kids 4 Harmony students participate in the Sistema Side by Side Series at Longy School of Music of Bard College. Her El Sistema mentors in the Kids 4 Harmony program are Jorge Soto, Marielisa Alvarez, and Mariesther Alvarez.
