Kyle Spraker, Teaching Artistry
An active soloist, chamber musician, orchestral trumpet player, and avid teaching artist, Kyle Spraker seeks to create concert experiences that dare to connect with audiences personally and engage their minds, as well as ears.
Currently, Kyle is the principal trumpet of the Cape Symphony and is in his fourth season with the ensemble. In his short time with the group, Kyle has been featured as a soloist several times both in front of the orchestra and from the back row. Outside of the Cape Symphony, Kyle has been recorded and credited as the trumpet soloist for the movie The Tenants Downstairs, and played on the soundtrack for the popular video game Final Fantasy XV. As an orchestral musician, he has toured throughout the United States, China, Venezuela, Taiwan, Japan, Mexico, and much of Eastern Europe.
Kyle joined the faculty at the Longy School of Music of Bard College in 2015. Currently, he teaches a course that introduces the practice and philosophy of Teaching Artistry, which provides students with the tools necessary to interact and engage with their audience and community on a more personal level. Kyle also serves on faculty at the Cape Conservatory and Nantucket Music Center, where he teaches private lessons on both trumpet and saxophone (his first instrument!).
Combining a passion for chamber music and education, Kyle co-founded the Redline Brass Quintet in 2010. Since then, RBQ has taken their interactive educational programs and chamber workshops to underserved schools, arts programs, detention centers, shelters, and concert halls throughout Boston and the Greater New England area. In 2012, the Longy School of Music awarded RBQ for its unique outreach efforts with the first President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching Artistry. RBQ has also premiered several new works, written by local composers, and has tackled some of the most challenging and significant repertoire for brass quintet in their recitals. www.redlinebrass.com

Before moving to the East Coast, Kyle earned a Bachelor’s Degree from California State University of Long Beach, where he studied with members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic: Jim Wilt and Christopher Still. He has also been a fellow at Spoleto Festival USA, the National Orchestral Institute, Idyllwild Festival, and the Castleton Festival under the baton of the legendary conductor, Lorin Maazel.
Kyle and his fiancée, Maria, are both busy performers and educators who have just made Cape Cod their new musical community.
