In April 2012, Longy become a part of the Bard College network. "Longy has found an ideal partner in mission and institutional direction in Bard College,” President Zorn said. “Bard is a bold leader in liberal arts education, with a history of socially-based programming that perfectly embodies Longy’s spirit of educational entrepreneurship and innovation.” Retaining its own operating budget, Longy continues to call the Boston area home, presenting over 200 free concerts each year at Pickman Hall, just outside of Harvard Square in Cambridge.
In partnership with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Longy's innovative 12-month Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program prepares musicians to become agents of change.
Located on the campus of the Los Angeles Philharmonic's El Sistema-inspired Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA) at Heart of Los Angeles (HOLA), this community-based teaching residency provides MAT candidates an integrated graduate music program with hands-on learning experiences at both YOLA and in urban public schools throughout Southern California.
The MAT in Music offers a unique and powerful graduate study in performance, music pedagogy, and social justice, as well as access to MAT faculty, including Los Angeles Philharmonic musicians and leading scholars in music and education. We are looking for inspired artists from all musical backgrounds-classical, pop, world, folk, jazz, instrumental, vocal, conducting and more.

Take a Stand, a unique partnership between the Longy School of Music of Bard College, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and Bard College, is focused on enhancing the quality of teaching and learning in the El Sistema movement in the United States. The three partner organizations seek to investigate the question, “What can a conservatory, a college, and world-class orchestra do to enhance the social footprint of music and education in the United States?”
The National Take a Stand Festival is a three-year project that began in 2015 with the creation of an International Teaching Faculty, who will serve as master teachers at two regional youth orchestra camps in 2016, culminating in a 7-day national youth orchestra camp in 2017, featuring a final performance led by LA Phil Music Director Gustavo Dudamel.
Founded in 2013, Longy’s innovative music initiative brings together students from El Sistema-inspired music programs across Massachusetts and musicians from the Longy Conservatory Orchestra for a series of intensive rehearsals and performances featuring nationally renowned guest artists and conductors.
Partnering with the Celebrity Series of Boston, Longy's Edward M. Pickman Hall showcases emerging artists in their Boston debut performance. In addition, featured artists present a masterclass with Longy students, usually on the day preceding the performance.
The Debut Series is sponsored by Harriet and David Griesinger and the Longy School of Music of Bard College.
The Teaching Artist Program (TAP) is a vital component of Longy’s Conservatory curriculum and is at the core of Longy’s ideal of social change through music. By giving students both the understanding and skills necessary to create engaging musical experiences for a wide variety of audiences and participants, the TAP is concrete preparation for reaching out to people and communities of diverse understandings and experiences.

- "Returning to Longy to perform [at the Gessner-Schocken concert] during the centennial celebration is a homecoming, not just because the Boston area is my home, but also because the artistic collaborators and mentors I encountered at Longy are like family to me. There was a level of intimacy at Longy that allowed for deeper connections.
