The Opera Department at the Longy School of Music of Bard College and the Longy Conservatory Orchestra present Les contes d’Hoffmann by Jacques Offenbach. The protagonist, the poet E.T.A. Hoffmann, is to receive a letter from Stella, a dazzling opera singer, but the councillor Lindorf intercepts it and provokes Hoffmann’s recollection of his past loves. Based on three of the actual E.T.A. Hoffmann’s short stories, follow the author as he recounts the fantastical experiences of his three loves and the nemeses that haunt him every step of the way through this wonder-filled and intricate work.
